James is a General Practitioner and co-founder of Tan Medical Group. Known for his warm, easygoing nature and sense of humour, James takes the time to really get to know his patients, not just what has brought them through the door that day.

James studied medicine in Brisbane before beginning his hospital training in Ballarat. Before entering General Practice, he spent five years working in orthopaedic surgery across regional Australia, including Ballarat, Tasmania, Alice Springs, Tweed Heads, Bundaberg, Albury, Armidale and Grafton. This experience gave James a strong background in musculoskeletal medicine, injury assessment and the management of orthopaedic conditions, which continues to be an important part of his work as a GP.

His career later brought James and Tiarne back to Ballarat, where he has continued caring for patients and families in the local community.

As a GP, James enjoys the variety that comes with general practice and caring for people through all different stages of life. He doesn’t believe every appointment needs to be rushed or overly clinical. His approach is thorough but relaxed, with plenty of conversation and usually a bit of humour along the way.

Creating Tan Medical Group has given James and Tiarne the opportunity to build the kind of practice they have always wanted, one where there is time to listen, relationships with patients matter, and people feel comfortable coming back year after year.
